battery life in chess computers

Does anyone have experience of chess computers? I have a systema jupiter which is a desktop device, but for some reason the battery life is really poor. A new set of 4 AA alkalines will only last a month or so. Even if I don't use it the battery power will still drain away. I also have a systema capricorn with exactly the same problem.

By comparison I have a systema endeavour which is a handheld LCD chess computer and the batteries in this last for years! This thing only takes 3 AAA.

Does anyone know why and can anyone recommend a desktop device where the battery life is good? What would be really good is a chess computer with flash memory so I don't risk losing the current game or better still an SD card slot so I can transfer the game to the PC. That would be cool!

Any advice appreciated.

This won't help much but I have a 15 or 20 year old Saitek Kasparov mk 12. I've changed the batteries twice. Once when the batteries were so old they started to rot and once when I needed them for the remote. It might be worth going for an older machine that doesn't have a fancy display. The drawback is that the standard of chess is probably poorer.
