Thanks Nordlys. I changed the post to read "Don't play non-subscribers - they have nothing to lose.
Nordlys will have to turn the lights on and off 15 times, shut and open the back door five times, then recite three verses of "I should be so lucky" by Kylie Minogue.
Please think of poor Nordlys when posting in future!!

(And I don't even know Kylie Minogue. So I'll have to google and find that poem, song or whatever it is. :'( And what's worse, there's no back door. :'(:'(:'( It's a no-win situation.)

Originally posted by Dr StrangeloveA person can register and play games w/o being a subscriber. When this non-subscriber is losing, he/she can simple "disappear", which is what this subject is all about. Then he/she can come back and register under a different handle and start over.
Please explain how you think non-subscribers have "nothing" to lose. They have exactly the same to lose.
[except their subscription if caught cheating - but then subscribers get that refunded anyway I think]
Playing non-subscribers is risky for 3 reasons:
1) They have nothing to lose and can simply disappear.
2) Since all new members start out at 1200, you can might lose a ton of rating points before their rating catches up to their playing strength.
3) This site takes money to run. If everyone decided not to pay for a subscribing membership RHP would shut down! 😳

2.ditto
3.Clans would shut down, tournaments would shut down, playing more than 6 games would end etc etc . More adverts maybe. [or at least there would be adverts for everyone]
I disagree that ALL non subscribers have nothing to lose, which is what you are inferring.
I could understand if you said not to play p rated players.
Originally posted by Dr StrangeloveI agree. Players who are new to the site might just try it out and disappear after a short time because they find out they don't like it. Players who are new, but have already subscribed, are less likely to do that, because they wouldn't have paid money if they weren't seriously interested in playing here, so in this case the subscription status has some relevance. If someone has played many games here, I don't think it makes a difference whether it's a subscriber or a non-subscriber. Some subscribers are well-known for disappearing every few months, and some disappear entirely.

Playing provisional players is a bit risky, both because they might disappear and because you don't know how good they are. On the other hand, if nobody plays them, how can we get new subscribers?
