a Beaver is a semi-aquatic species of rodent of the family Mamalia Rodentia Castoridae.
They frequent the river systems of North America where they build little houses of wood under the river banks.
In these little houses they often have gambling tournaments, which was made famous by the fact that Elvis often took part.
During these tourneys they bet anything from empty cola cans to wooden nuggets. (rumour has it that Elvis once won 60 bottle caps with a straight flush!)
As the monetary value of empty tins and bottle caps dissapeared after the great depression, (the one of '96), their gambling tradition lost a lot of support and will shortly become just another obscure fact lost in history.

lucardo is correct. ths is why in texas hold'em the last cards are known as the "river".
