Originally posted by generalissimothe problems with the beetles was their lack of musical virtuosity, Lennon himself even remarked upon this, although i do not think it in any way detracts from nor diminishes their importance (their music is incredibly enjoyable), for he himself states that he is first and foremost an Artist, give him a tuba and he could create something, and latterly Lennon was especially concerned with producing something with substance, is this not what he was concerned about in describing McCartney's music as 'granny music', thus Dylan and Hendrix became hugely influential, the former for his lyrical mastery, the latter for his musical.
I don't think the beatles are overrated, they had many number ones, and also some great albums, with songs that covered almost all genres.
I think it would be hard to find bands that would make albums similar to the likes of Revolver, Sgt.pepper, or the beatles.

All things must pass, is also another one, unfortunately it is very underrated.
I think we have to admit that it was well ahead of its time, the innovation, and the experimentation makes this album stand out, without mentioning that songs like A day in the life, Lovely rita, and Lucy in the sky with diamonds, were masterpieces.[/b]Sgt. Pepper is good I would rate it third after the white album but the best album ever would have to be Imagine, nothing comes close to it.

Originally posted by generalissimoI have a hunch that ten to twenty years from now, if the world economy doesn't reboot first (or perhaps even if it does), Iron & Wine's album The Shepherd's Dog will be considered one of the best albums ever. Personally, I already think it is.
Sgt.pepper's lonely hearts club band, Who's next, and Are you experienced?
So.... I cast my vote for Iron & Wine's The Shepherd's Dog.
