Mary, did you know.

A Christmas song - not a song that happens in the Christmas season.

Merry Christmas to all.

Veni, Emmanuel or In Dulci Jubilo.

Or for something a bit lighter "Christmas at Ground Zero" or "The Night Santa Went Crazy" both by Weird Al.

Huck, you just took the Christ out of Christmas!

A good 90%+ of Christmas song covers are absolute garbage. Someone is a new star for 2007, so of course they have to do a Christmas album. Slop it together, get it into the stores, and hope people will buy it. Any old turkey who's had any measure of sucess in music in the past gets the same treatment. Most of what you hear on the radio is just a waste of time this time of year.

Some of the best music is where someone will go beyond the first verse of the most well-known carols. Often in the second, third, and other verses you find the best work instead of the all too familiar verse you know from memory.

"It Came Upon A Midnight Clear" third verse:

O ye beneath life's crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow;
Look now, for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing;
Oh rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing.

One specific recomendation I whole-heartedly make is Bruce Cockburn's album "Christmas". Always good and often breathtaking. His "Mary Had A Baby" can leave you in tears.

Merry Christmas Sean and all.

Best,
Steve

Actually, it is quite appropriate to spell Christmas as Xmas. The 'X' is the Greek letter Chi (pronounced "Kai"😉, the first letter of the Greek word "Christos" or "Christ".

I also find it a bit annoying when people sing only a shortened version of a carol instead of the whole thing.

Santa Claws is coming to town - Live Springsteen version

or, alternatively, most versions of "Winter wonderland".

Arguably, though, it should be "Fairytale in New York" by the Pogues... there's nothin' like a little bit of swearin' to make Christmas complete.

Traditional : Silent Night.

I also have a little weep every time I see the movie of the same name, which aired again last night (http://us.vdc.imdb.com/title/tt0338434).

Modern : Slade : Merry Christmas Everybody.
Whilst I'm sure some will chide the choice of what has sadly become the face of Commercial Christmas, its hope, positivism and contagious party cheer cannot be denied.

Merry Christmas All.

Apart from that, the only other one worth listening to is this Barclay James Harvest song:
