Well, with the Oscars just around the corner (pending the writers don't go back on strike), it's time to discuss your favourite film of 2007.
Obviously I could make a short list for you:

- Charlie Wilson's war
- Juno (as if...)
- Blood diamond
- Hairspray (hilarious if you like Travolta in drag)
- Happy feet (if this is your favourite film, you'll be dragged out and shot)
- Wild hogs (well, if "Welcome to Collinwood" moved you, why wouldn't this?)
- American gangster

But, I'm sure others will have other nominations on their short list...

However. I'm going with none of the above. I'm going for "No country for old men" by the Coen brothers.
For me, this is the "must see" film of 2007 (2008 here in Holland, but we're using the Oscar calender...).

Especially the Anton character who stands out like... Like... Well, like a bad haircut really... What a God awfully brilliant specimen of evil.
I think this well could be a runner up to "Best bad guy ever" (Darth Vader is obviously the number one).

And the end! Not only do Joel and Ethan have balls the size of water melons to attempt to pull something of that magnitude off, but isn't it like the most quint-essential non-Hollywood ending you've ever seen?
Absolutely brillant!

So, what do you think's the best film of 2007. And why?

Of them I have seen three;
Blood diamond
Hairspray
and Happy feet
Hairspray was a disapointment. Happy feet was kinda cute and the kids liked it. Blood Diamond I saw the other night on DVD and I thought it was everything a film should be, I'd pick that one!

What was good about it? The acting? The script?

Blood Diamond was 2006, folks.

Didn't see many movies this year but I saw both Juno and No Country for Old Men and both were fantastic. Juno was incredibly hilarious, touching and hip while No Country was mesmerizing, thought-provoking and unique. So I vote for both.

Cahrlie Wilson's War is one movie that I am dying to see. Been a big fan of Aaron Sorkin since the early days of the West Wing and you can never go wrong with Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The only one I've seen in this thread is Juno, but I agree. It was like "Napoleon Dynamite" with content. Awesome.

It certainly didn't hurt to have Ellen Page and Michael Cena (Two Canadians) doing a duet of "Anyone Else But Me" by the Moldy Peaches during the film's closing. It was the proverbial icing on the cake for me.

I thought Juno was over-hyped.
It was okay, some of the dialogue was funny. But, generally, it all seemed a little fake somehow.

Charlie Wilson's war is a must-see. Totally.

I saw it on opening day after hearing a review on the CBC that morning, there was faintly any hype at the time but there seems to be quite a bit now. Personally, I thought Page's acting was superb. Great comedic timing but with so much heart and sadness. Just a great performance. Jennifer Garner is also great in that film.

Funnily enough, the only thing that sticks by me from the film was "Guestimation." I love that word!

So constructive! I know. It's a bloky film maybe? Or for the younger generation?

It's almost like you've never heard it before. 😕

My favourite lines:

"Hi there, I'd like procure a hasty abortion, please?"

and

"Oh yeah! Well I bought a Sonic Youth album and it sucked! It's just noise!"
