Graphically, the game offers nothing but the depth, intelligence and sheer gameplay (not to mention the spelling and grammer) far exceed even the best grand theft auto can offer. I have played the game on and off for many years and have never completed it though actually got quite close once.
It is basically a dungeon game that appears to have you fighting monsters with weapons, potions and magic but it is so beautifully written that the game understands any weird things you might want to try and do with the objects in it and you often find solutions to problems that surely nobody thought of and yet they work.
Try, for example, blessing a potion of water by praying to your god on an aligned alter and then dipping your sword in it. It will certainly help when you just wrapped a towel around your head because you thought a mindflayer might be around and earlier you eat a floating eye so you can "feel" its presence and yet you just drank a potion of levitation in order to escape across some water but you forgot that you hadn't been able to remove the ball and chain from your ankles that you got from a scroll of punishment. However, perhaps it would be better to put on a ring of polymorph control, zap YOURSELF with your wand of polymorph, polymorph into a rust monster and just eat the damn ball and chain first. That might just work, hey! it did! Shame I can't use the chain or ball as a weapon now but that's life I guess.
