I guess, in no particular order, Leanard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Dick Gaughan (Both sides the tweed), Billy Joel, Ralph McTell (streets of london). Pete Seeger (Where have all the flowers gone?)

Any other entries into this list?

Was Hendrix as prolific as the others, Willie, Woody? Eric, didn't he write 'take off those thirsty boots and stay for awhile'?

I'm a big fan of Louden Wainwright III and never miss a chance to see
him perform if he's in town. His kids are naff but he is quite brilliant.

I offer you Jake Thackray.

I don't know whether he's known outside the UK or not, but to me he is one of the greats. I was a student when he was at his most popular. Quirky, very clever, a bit oddball, a bit like a toned down Tom Lehrer at times, but lovely lyrical unforgettable music a bit like traditional French street music but he was Yorkshire. A brilliant enigma of a man, who, sadly, died far too young.

Here's a link to the biography on his tribute site.
