I agree with Das Boot, but Beast of War deserves an honourable mention.
Apocalypse Now and Platoon certainly belong up there.

Nobody seems to have mentioned The Big Red One.

Just kidding. Trying to provoke certain people.

Seriously, I vote for 'War and Remembrance' a mini series on WWII with Robert Mitchum and Jane Semour. A classic.
"The Winds of War" was the original miniseries, which was then followed by "War and Remembrance". I haven't seen the later one, but the "Winds of War" miniseries was excellent, and I think it followed the book by Herman Wouk fairly faithfully.

Youre absolutely right. I have to get the Winds of War and see it.

Indeed. Especially the invasion part. I cannot imagine it being overdone.

I have just seen Schindler's List. I am not that fond of black and white, and probably because of it, I cannot grade this movie that high as one on IMDB does. A good movie, but it leaves me the thought the 'viewing pleasure' could have been enhanced with a colour movie. The black and white shades just are a bother to my eyes. I certainly prefer The Pianist over this movie, since it wasn't that a slow starter too...
