Big surprise, Sandusky found guilty on 45 charges.

General

The surprising thing is he didn't plead guilty in the first place. They say he will get 400 + years in prison. So he will only be 460 when he gets out.....

1,000 days is but a year and a 1,000 years as if a day. Perspective takes time.

He's a Nonce who could have been stopped a lot earlier=(less victims) if we would pay more attention to what children say, and less to what authority figures say.

This philosophy may work on many levels.

We put sports figures (in this case, coaches) up on pedestals that they sometimes use to abuse the trust given to them. Pedophiles are often found in positions of trust where they have access to children. Priests, and now coaches, and sometimes teachers, are age-old favorites. They should, as a matter of course, be held to a higher amount of scrutiny, no matter their win-loss record.

When I first heard the testimony against this guy in the press, I thought, yeah, he's done, he's never seeing the light of day again.

Yeah over here we have an ongoing disclosure process before anyone can work with or supervise children and vulnerable adults. And regulations regarding anyone being alone with a child.

Sounds a bit paranoid but on a day to day basis it is adhered to without people being too conscious of it. It offers protection to the adults as well.

It is a shame that it comes to that, but that pales into insignificance compared to the damage one such predator can cause.

And obviously no system is fool proof, we still have these cases hitting the national papers, but I think we have to make children as safe as possible, whilst allowing them and adults to engage in healthy interraction's in a social and mentoring environment.
