So much for science explaining all. He was just as sure in his last theory.

Kudo's to Hawking for his research. I think he discovered in the 70s that radiation leaked out of black holes, now another great discovery.

Time to re eval celestial theory .. 🙂

We're all float on alright ..

Surely black holes cannot exist!

For since they suck matter in, and thus become ever larger (and thus suck in even more matter at even faster rates) the universe would be one big black hole by now??

Or is it just me?

black holes only have a certain area of influence. Anything within that area is sucked, and that matter tis incorporated thus making the area of influence larger. But at some point you will have sucked in everything in your area of influence and will then stop growing, so therefore have nothing to suck in. Passing matter such as comets ill be draw in, but they are too small to make the black hole significantly larger. There is also a possibility that black holes have a critical size that means they get less stable or less efficient as they get bigger. Or so I think.

It's in currently pretty accepted that black holes do exist. Although we can't see them directly 'evidences' like distortions of stars and energy patterns in space seem to confirm the theory.
