-Removed-Hmmm, you must not have an HD TV, because there really is no question about the quality
difference. Without an HD TV then IT IS just the same as a normal DVD. I've seen about a
dozen or so Bluray movies on my friend's HD TV and the quality difference is quite noticeable.
I don't feel strongly about this. I just enjoy watching the superior picture quality of Bluray. 🙂
oh, I LOOOOVE bluray, just LOVE it! and I can't understand how any movie freak can do without HD after seeing it in action. it's like choosing vhs instead of the movie theatre, the picture quality difference is just staggering.
in a normal telly it'll look just like normal dvd though, as it'll show in standard definition. same with grainy movies like the older wong kar-wais. the quality of the transfer also makes big difference, and screwed up blurays get reissued all the time. the recent bluray of kurosawa's ran for example is pretty crap, so better wait until someone does it properly. the new kagemusha is awesome though, but there's only a region A version so far. so if you're getting something, it pays off to read a couple of reviews first.
-Removed-yeah, throwing more resolution at a low quality source doesn't really do anything. remastering the original can help a bit though, but you can polish a turd only so far... on lot of the older stuff high image quality simply wasn't a concern, and now that's all coming back to haunt them. in most cases they could've done them properly, like zulu and 2001 from the 60s demonstrate, but for various reasons they simply didn't make the effort.
