i'm a 1984 child and i did all that stuff,

i had a black and white TV,
i called it 'knock off ginger' even did it on john prescotts house once,
i also remember fighting while on roller skates, i got whooped
i used an old milk crate for cricket wickets
tried making a tree house once, it failed so we just climbed it for conkers

i know i'm still young to many of you but i had a great childhood running about all the time, too much mollycoddling nowadays

Mollycoddling?

Do you Brits just make words up for the fun of it?

Anything wrong with that? Anyway, this word has been made up quite a while ago: http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-mol1.htm

Why don't you just say 'sissy' like the rest of the world.

Obviously you Brits also came up with the word 'pretentious'.

"Mollycoddling" is so much more musical. Only someone who has no sense at all for nice sounds would prefer "sissy".

"You Brits"? I am German.

It’s exasperating the way you colonials deride your mother tongue. It would appear our forefathers went to exorbitant lengths only to instil a modicum of parlance into an otherwise mundane existence in the far realms of the empire.

I will admit that it sounds better than sissy.

Sorry for assuming you were British, how awful that must have sounded.

Meine bleistifte ist grosse und gelb. (one of the many 'useful' German phrases I learned in class)

Oh? And why would that be?

Meine bleistifte ist grosse und gelb. (one of the many 'useful' German phrases I learned in class)

You are not the first one who goes on about big yellow pencils here in the forum... But neither of you got it right. I hope that's not really what you learned in class. It should be "Meine Bleistifte sind groß und gelb." (Edit: Or "Mein Bleistift ist groß und gelb", if it's just one.)
