When registering with hotmail they have that whizzy numeric pad where you have to type in the numbers and letters you see.

In view of the number of timewasters registering at the site I think we should help Russ and ourselves by thinking of a way to ensure that:

1/ The same plonkers are not registering just for a laugh.
2/ Previously banned players are detected and their registration rejected.

I know that the site is there for people to play chess but the 'brainless kids' that constantly try and spoil the site are quite honestly a pain in the A.

So to kick it off.

We all have to register using an email address. Some will create a hotmail account and then never visit it. If on an intermittant basis a message were to be sent via email requesting that you insert a code into a menu under your login name it would very quickly beome apparent who these people are.

To my mind if someone creates an email account just to gain access to the site then they must have something to hide.

I believe it is part of the tos to have an active email address, this is one way of using it to varify that users are adhering to this part of the tos.

Anymore ideas? Anyone care?

If they are having fun screwing RHP over, they will check the mail and type the code.

Gah.

Great idea. This would definitely help combat the multiple account problem.

I never check the email account that I set up this with. Some people use false email addresses to avoid all the spam that RHP generates (move reminders, open invite accepted by... immeadiately followed by game deleted by..

I stand corrected, I guess this would be a good idea.

Thank you for your post. Proves my thinking was along the right lines. All you have to do is switch off email notification.

The only messages I get are when a draw has been made in a tourni and when RHP have something important to tell me.

If a VALID email address is part of the tos then you are breaking it's terms.

Does anyone know if it is?
