Most of you are being unfair to this policeman. He feared reprisals from Islamic extremists. That, ipso facto, shows the danger of Islam and how moderates, such as this policeman, are in fear of their so-called brothers. Leave him alone. Tackle the real problem - extreme Islam (which is true Islam) and the insane nature of religious zealousty.

We wouldn't want the poor chap endangering himself would we? 😉
Are you thick, or just contrary for the sake of it? The problem is with him guarding a specifically Israeli building. That leaves millions of other buildings he could guard without incident.

You must be the thick one. If there are millions of buildings to be protected in London it would need a minimum of millions of policemen - which is slightly more than there are in the Diplomatic Protection Group, or even the whole force.
If you knew anything at all about civil servants and the police in particular you would know, like I do, that the majority of them will snatch any opportunity to help themselves regardless of the publics' best interests.
The Commissioner of the Met is having an "urgent review" of the pathetic state of affairs - hopefully to prevent more of this abuse of the system.

I didn't mean they all needed guarding, and you know it. Only that IF they need guarding, he can do it.

i was a police officer for 35 years and i guess i've seen it ALL! like so many other officers i've had to grit my teeth and hold my nose many times doing things i hated but that was my job. i haven't read the article in question so i wont judge the PC but there is no way i would support a refusal to do what he was assigned. if he was uncomfortable with the detail then he should do it and then ask for a transfer. geopolitics or religion is not an acceptable reason to neglect your duties!

Maybe you should have read the article.

It is true that you are giving another scenario but you are giving one that has absolutely no relevance to this policeman who seems to have had a legitimate concern for the safety of himself and his family.
Maybe they should leave Britain for somewhere safer 🙂

It was a hypothetical. Look it up.

And by the way, are you saying that Germany had no embassies in the 1930s?
