My friend and I play on here and are going to join the subscriber deal and were wondering how you first of all go about getting into a clan and secondly what do you do ? does ea member play a game against another member in an opposiing clan or are their more structured tournament

Clans are groups of 20 or less players. One challenge will challenge another. Usually, you are paired with a similarly rated player. A clan challenge can be just one player against another from two different clans or it can be all members. Typically clan matches seem to be 3-7 players or so in a challenge. Each player plays as black & white. You get a point for a win, none for a draw or loss I believe.
Some weird people seem to think the more matches you play, the better you are. They aim to be on "page 1" because they have more points than anyone else.
However, there are clan leagues also. This is a little different than the clan challenges. You have a team of 6. You then get a match with black & white against one member from each other team (usually 10?) in a division. Here it depends on the strength of the division regarding what the strength of your opponents will be. Eventually, you will be playing players mostly of your strength in the leagues as well.
You can leave a clan at any time.
You can also make yourself unavailable for clan challenges if you have too many games going.

Try find a clan that meets your needs though.
If you like Fantasy stuff you can join my clan Clan 25006
If you're of Jewish descent you can join Clan 214
If you like moving fast and furious you join Clan 74 or Clan 25005
If you have a soft spot for animals there is always Clan 24241
There are tons to choose from with almost every interest catered for. If you can't find what you're looking for then you can always make your own (BEWARE YOU CAN'T DELETE A CLAN ONCE YOU'VE CREATED IT)
Basically clans are there for like minded individuals to join together and have some fun playing chess and get some sort of team spirit.
