because it is at a bad time of the year. spring training has started and it has taken a lot of players away from their MLB teams for 3 weeks and a lot of people don't like that, especially the stinking yankees. and college basketball is really heating up, selection day is sunday.

and also most of the idiots in our country only tune into to american i ...[text shortened]... ll fans are enjoying it, i am enjoying it. but its at a really bad time of the year for the MLB
So I suppose they should of held it in November? Most players at that ime of year are dead beat from a long season already. Plus the teams that haven't made the playoofs are sitting at home for the past month, but now they're expected to get in shape again? Do you shut down the season in July for 3 weeks to hold the event, and risk injury to key players, which might hurt their teams drive to the playoffs??
This is the only time of year that makes sense. The 65 pitch rule for first round is to prevent over throwing. It's no different than the players at spring training, only this means so much more. Mad Madness is still going to draw the big crowds and TV audience, by far and away its the best tournament in any sport. As for Barry Bonds playing for team USA, they don't need him, but how about Vladimar Guerrero playing for the Domincan??? They already have a stacked team at every position, now you're adding Vlad to the mix, they have to be the team to beat. Like to see them VS Japan for the final

i'm just mad about the loss yesterday. so maybe i don't have all the answers why, but the US is not embracing the WBC as they should
Think about this for a moment. No one told the Canadians they had to lose, that's why they play the game in the first place. The Canadians had nothing to lose either way, if they lost, big deal, everyone expected the USA to steam roll over them. But they played as a team, plan and simple, there is no "I" in team, it takes nine men or women to make a team, not a bunch of individuals, as the Canadian men's hockey team found out, much the same as the US men's and women's team. This is really a great tournament, and it should start to generate more interest in the coming years.

Think about this for a moment, why at the little league world series, do the American's play in four divisions against themselves? Sinple answer is so that there is always an American team in the finals....give me a break!!!! Tell me you think this is fair??? If the US is so good why not open it up, and have all the teams mixed like the WBC, seems too me that would be the democratic way to do it. But really it doesn't mean anything, even with the US guarenteed a final birth how many American teams have actually won it???? Not to many.

This WBC is here simply because baseball is being removed from the summer Olympic games. Now the US as host have a showcase event that draws from all the world, not just the homers. Bravo for stepping up to the plate. Look for Canada to continue to improve over the next four years, and to come back with a vengance.

Don't forget also that B.C. has the strongest baseball program in Canada, and US NCAA schools are finally realizing that fact. The team I'm associated with in Men's AAA Senior have nine players on NCAA rosters. I coached a number of those players over the years including Loewen, Roglestat, Morneau, Guiel, Myette, Nicolson, Francis, Mathieson, and a few players on their supplemental list. People are starting to realize the world is catching up to Canada in Hockey, and Canadians are catching up to the world in baseball, and its about time!! Have a good day.

With Mexico's 9-1 rout of Canada yesterday and the US 17-0 destruction of S. Africa with the Rocket on the mound Friday, the Canucks didn't make it into the second round as the tie break between the three teams tied for first in that bracket was runs given up in games between the clubs (since the US beat Mexico 2-0 earlier in the tourney). That put Mexico in first (3 runs allowed), the US second (8 runs allowed) and then Canada (15 runs allowed). We'll see if the loss to Canada was an aberration or not; the US next faces a very tough Japanese team.

i wasn't speaking for myself, I was just stating how most of the U.S. seemed to be thinking.

You obviously don't know much about the Little League World Series. and teams from the entire world can qualify for it. trust me, its equal oppurtuniy, it happens not far from my house.

Congatulations on beating us in baseball, unfortunately that doesn't get you in the next round. and I'm sorry, you havn't caught up us in baseball, but good luck with that one.

and i can throw out names also, Kobe Bryant dunked on me many times during our days as enemies in high school basketball. Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace are family friends and i know them well. I've coached players in Division 1 baseball and volleyball. I'm a little to young to have former players i coached in the majors, but two of them were drafted but opted to go to college instead. we'll see what happens in the next few years.

You have a nice day also

The US won a controversial thriller over Japan 4-3 on A-Rod's game winning single with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the 9th. A very questionable leaving the base early call cost the Japanese the go ahead run in the 9th.

The only team with no major leaguers, Cuba, stunned Venezuela 7-2. Johan Santana, the AL Cy Young award winner, took the loss though he pitched very well giving up only one run in 5 innings. The Cubans broke through for 5 runs in the 6th off a relief pitcher for the Dodgers, I think. GW will have a heart attack like Milosevic if the Cubans win; he didn't want them to be allowed to play but thankfully politics got kept out of sports for this event anyway.

No. That was Rugby League.

My reference to the Little League World series was referring to the brackets. I realize all can qualify, but funny how US has 4 brackets for their teams with no outside competetion? Obviously one of their teams will make the final every year, now if you don't call that a FIX, then you're not looking at the picture with an open mind.

As for dropping names, well I was just trying to point out that we in British Columbia have the strongest program going when it comes to baseball. Can't help it that so many came through our program, and I'm only 52, so not a senior citizen yet. Still think the DR will be the team to beat even without A-Rod, they look awfully powerful. Have a good day.
