A friend told me that traffic lights had been phased out in Canada as courtesy between drivers was enough to keep junctions safe. Did this really happen? If it did, did it work?
suggest that it does redistribute traffic jam such that all incoming roads
have somewhat equal throughput in relation to the number of cars
coming from a given direction (if that made any sense), and when cars
collide the damage is never really all that serious as the speed is low.
The problem is that you get no respect whatsoever unless you're sitting
in a big car (truck preferably). I drive a rather small Mazda 323F and I
have to just close my eyes, hit the pedal to "jump in" and hope for the
best as I open my eyes again.
(That last part was a joke, for the lesser minded among us.)
