This thread is for the candidates to Games Mods, to tell us why vote for them.
At this moment i have one clear vote but i have two remaining and i would like to hear something from them or from people who knows them in order to make a good choice.
Campaign trail time guys... :-)
I am not sure that advertizing for yourself is such a good idea. I will not do so either.
This is not an "election" to win votes. Its about giving Russ an idea who the community seems fit to take a position with a "advice" ability in possible cheating issues.
I think its better when people who wanna vote look at the list of volunteers and take a look at things like their contributions in the forums till now.
Whatever anybody writes here as why they should be in the CP doesn't have to have any value at all. I could write I own a dozen engines, which I don't, or have excellent chess skills, which I don't, or having years of experience as CP at other sites, which I don't ... but if I so stated, nobody could prove me wrong (except for the chess skills, for my rating tells enough).
I am just a volunteer who is willing to donate my time and "skills" to make RHP an even better site then it already is.

I think the following things are important for the CP-team:
1) it must be able to check suspect games with engines.
2) it needs at least one (very) strong player
3) it must be careful in making assessments of someone cheating
4) it needs to be reliable in terms of honesty, behaviour etc
I like to know from the applicants what they have to offer for the CP-team
Cheers,
Quirine

You do agree, and I agree with you. My statement is that anybody "advertizing" points three or four as a skill, which are necessary for the CP, is highly subjective. Running a "campaign" for being part of the CP is not a good idea in my opinion. The people who do have the engines can post they do. We all know strong players on this site, like David, or you for that matter, but how can I "promote" myself being "righteous" and "fair" when it comes to "judging" a possible cheat case? It should already be clear to the voters who those people are ... read all the threads about this subject and you get a pretty good idea who they are.
Back to the "campaign". I am one of the volunteers for the CP. This means that I would like to be in. As I have said before, I am not a strong player. I do have one engine, but not many. To get into the CP I need to convince you that I am either "carefull in making assements" and/or "reliable in terms of honesty etc."
Now, I do post that I am careful and honest. Why would you believe me? Because i say so? No ... not in my opinion. If anybody thinks I should be in the CP, its because of my previous behaviour or contributions to the subject discussed, and not by "campaigning" in this thread.
What role can a lower rated player play in the CP? A lot of low rated candidates seems to be voted in, but how can they contribute? I'm rated over 1500 and I would be lost if I was to analyse a game between two 1800+ players. Sure you can compare Fritz/Shredder/whatevers moves with the actual game, but how can you spot anything but obvious cases like JW?

Let me tell you I have checked for myself some players and it takes time, to let your engine think each move for a long time, sometimes the engine have one move at first 15 minutes and later could change it, if the cheater has a very fast machine maybe you wont find some moves unless you let the engine thinks a huge amount of time.
One game says nothing, to prove you will have to find x coincidences in x games and you will have to find the engine, what about if he mixes the engines, what about if he only plays one critical move in the hole game?
It takes time!!
Originally posted by Boby FisherThe nice thing about letting an engine think, is you can play your RHP games while it is doing so. Since we don't use engines to make our moves, we can think and move in our RHP games while an engine runs in the background checking other games.

Yes, you must check several games... can't base anything on a single game. Should be interesting.
