i had the water pump in my vehicle replaced by a reputable car repair station. 18 months later the new water pump is leaking now.

Anyone know if this is normal? Seems like an ultra short lifespan considering the last one lasted 5 years.

water pumps used to be a "rebuild" item...
there are only two places it can leak...
the main seal where it bolts to tha block, or around tha shaft...
if the unit you bought wuz a rebuild, and itz leakin round tha shaft, it wuz a simple case of piss poor work by tha rebuild shop...
shoot them suckers...
if it iz leakin round tha main seal to tha block, tha installer iz a dirtball, and did a poor job with tha gasket seal...
whip him...

Buy a German car. American cars are poor.(assumption you have one).

Most of the time a faulty flux capacitor would contribute to the short life of a water pump.
