In some positions it's good to delay castling, keep your opponent guessing which way you're going to go.

You must move your King first, If you move your rook first you must move only your rook.
Also, the King must not be under attack, or pass through or land on a square under attack for the castling to be legal. However, this does not apply to the Rook; the Rook can even be under attack and still participate in a castling.
