There are thousands of different charities around these days, I was wondering what charities everyone supports, I have always thought the process of giving money away takes people right to the centre of their belief structure, and says more about them than they would believe.

As a starter, I am a member of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

I thought the WWF was the World Wrestling Federation.........I have to get out more often 🙂

Seriously, that is a worthwhile group....I always check into the distribution of the funds i.e. percentage towards Admin costs etc. Cancer, Heart funds usually get my support because of first hand family experience in those areas. Child Find is another good one here in Canada.

We support the Red Cross.

how come the World Wildlife Fund sued the World Westleing Federation (WWF) and made it change its name to World Westleing Entertainment (WWE) when the WWF had the name first?

The world wildlife federation has been around for quite some time. Are you sure the wrestlers got there first, or did you just hear of them first?

I support "Sight Savers" because it costs as little as 50 cents to give someone their sight back. Think about that for a moment, of how much your sight really means and how little 50 cents is. I lost the sight temporarily in my right eye for 1 week, then in my left a few months later. That was only 1 eye at a time, and I knew it was temporary, but it was still scarey and difficult to do stuff.

Sight Savers International is one of my large clients at work. They do far more good work than people would imagine in the developing world.

The world wildlife fund was founded in 1961.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) was there first. It sued the World Wrestling Federation (WWE, to avoid confusion) because the WWE was holding the WWF.com web domain and threatening the WWF not to use the acronym WWF!

you mean "The Samaritans"? - dammit, I can't spell it either. The phone line suicidal people? Excellent work they do! They also get e-mail from all over the world (50% from America).
I used to volunteer for them when I was in the UK. Tough work but rewarding.

My favorite charity is the Women and Childrens Shelter of Pittsburgh. I think you can find many charities to donate to that do not compromise your beliefs.

Honestly, it is very seldom that I give money to a charity that is not locally based. I don't want to knock ANY kind of charity, but there are "some" organizations that keep a bit too much of the pot for themsleves to sit right with me. Overall, I much prefer to DO something than to just give money. I like to donate my time and energy to any cause I can fit in my schedule. Local places I enjoy helping are the soup kitchen and homeless shelter.
