I think I should win every game. The rules of chess state that you are not allowed to do anything to annoy your opponent. So if I protest to the arbiter that me opponent's good moves are annoying me, then the arbiter should disqualify my opponent, forfeit the game in my favour, and I should win every game. I don't understand why I'm not a GM by now!😀

Originally posted by NordlysYes, that's all true. However, I think the person who would be most annoyed would be the arbiter!! 😠 He's got to think these players are a little nuts. Chess nuts, I guess! 😀
But your opponent could find it annoying that you are making a complaint to the arbiter, and complain about it to the arbiter.
Originally posted by NordlysNo, but I'll bet he would be annoyed. Like in any sport, you don't want to be annoying the referee, no matter what the rules are. Even though they are impartial, it's not a good idea to annoy them.
I don't think there's a rule against annoying the arbiter, is there? 😉
In some sports, you see coaches or players deliberately bait the referee. The true fan gets very turned off by that. In baseball, if you show up the umpire, it will do you no good at all and might even get you tossed out of the game.
I’ve had a few wily opponents try to hornswoggle me. Once in an OTB game I went for a walk and returned to find my opponent had sneaked in an extra move hoping I wouldn’t notice. Another time I had an opponent who a little too strongly insisted on using his clock and it be placed on his right. I looked at it when he went for a walk and found he had set the little sliders on the back so his clock ran slow & mine fast. Not saying I did it but if I was playing an opponent rated 400 pts below me and I got careless and allowed him to mate me but he didn’t realize I was mated and I continued playing and won would that be considered bad form?
