How would citric acid enhance gum? Is that a flavor?
I guess he mistook his citric acid "powder/packet" for the explosive material?

I smell a conspiracy.

Some people like the sour taste and citric acid provides a very sour sensation without being actaully oxic. However the explosive should have been very strong to blow off a jaw. Be aware that the lips would be a quite well security valve opening when the jaw is displaced by a small way...

I'm no doctor but isn't the jaw connected by tendons and muscle?
I don't think any main arteries are there so how did he die?

I'm no doctor either, There are main veins along the jawline, not to mention a lot of blood vessels both large and small in the neck area. I've heard of people bleeding to death with much less severe damage.

Yes, there are tissues, sinews and muscles connecting the jaw and skull. How else would you chew?

Guess what's on the other side of the roof of your mouth...

With enough power to blow a jaw off, the damage to the brain may have done him in.

Even if that's not the case, having no major arteries in any given area isn't enough reason to live through any given injury.

Citric acid is what makes lemons and other citrus fruits sour.
