I found this site when they first opened the door and turned on the lights, and have not felt the need to even look for any other chess sites.

The only other chess site I like is www.schemingmind.com.......nearly as good as this one.[IMO]

Gameknot is Canadian rules chess, though. The knights move differently, and the board is round and pink like bacon.

some people like GK because they don't have these awful forums, but most people who go there come back eventually wearing a clever disguise.

http://www.chesshere.com/

This one's pretty good. Somewhat similar in time controls etc. Easy enough on the eyes. A few other or at least different options.

I got banned from gameknot because they said I was blocking adds. I don't even know how to do that, and when I asked what I needed to do to fix it, they just killed me and said it's too complicated. I hate them for that, but otherwise it was a good looking website with a lot of great features. They did say if I was to spend my dollar they would overlook my transgression and reinstate me. ( I threatened to sick Phlabibit on them) They weren't impressed. But it did make them laugh.

For playing chess I like chessworld.com and they have some really friendly people.

The site is too busy and has too much nonsense in its design but still very usable and I really enjoy the game there. As for forums. I don't know... I never used them. I just like playing chess there or I used to until I found this site.
