Okay here's an idea for an experimental chess-survivor hybrid kind of game, which i hope people will enjoy. it's not really as complicated as it might appear from first glance - in fact, compared to chess tactics, strategy and remembering opening variations, it's a piece of cake!
first, we form teams, in which each player is represented by a piece on the board, eg white king's bishop, or black queen. if there are not 32 players, we can 'adopt' multiple pieces.
each team, white and black, communally decides by vote on the moves for that team, via this thread and PMs or whatever. if there is a tie, then the king has a casting vote
scoring is by points. your piece(s) score points for: attacking empty squares, threatening enemy pieces, supporting friendly pieces, capturing and so on. details:
first, there is a multiplication weighting factor (MW), to make it fair for the weaker pieces. this multiplication factor is
pawn 9
king 8
bishop/knight 7
rook 5
queen 1
then there are attack points (APs):
for attacking empty squares or squares occupied by friendly pieces, 1 point per square per move. for example, in the opening position, pawns each attack 2 empty squares, except for the rook pawns, which only attack 1.
threatening enemy pieces: 2 x enemy-piece-value (EPV) per move.
capturing: 5 x EPV
where EPV is the familiar Q=9, B/N=3, R=5, P=1
check/checkmate is treated the same and the king's nominal EPV=2
each piece/player's AP x MW score is calculated after each move and added to their total.
when a player's piece is captured, that player drops out of the game with his current total.
there are no points for winning the chess game, so there is no real incentive for players on the same team to co-operate except in the direct interests of their piece(s).
anybody wanna give it a go?
nominate which piece you would like to adopt, eg white king's bishop pawn. one each to begin with, we can double up if there are not enough takers.
the actual game can be played out by two of us, so everyone can see the game state in order to vote.
the winner of course is the one with the most points when the game ends...so if you are ahead, it might be in your interests to bring about your own side's checkmate...

c'mon, it'll be fun...<sigh> I guess the wheel took a while to catch on too...😞😳
I guess I'd be on for it. Consider it a sympathy join. 😛 😉
But don't the d and e pawns get a real raw deal, seeing as they will probably be the first to go?

thanks for the replies. complicated? compared to chess itself? but, yeah, perhaps the scoring needs to be simplified - i just wanted to even things out for all the pieces. as for Ragnarok's concern, the d and e pawn guys would have to act like on survivor and convince their team mates to thrust someone else forward. that's why there are no points awarded for a team win - there's no incentive to play the best possible chess, just to accumulate points for yourself and avoid being captured.
and no, not a lot of thought went into it. 10 minutes max i would say, and yes, it was my idea, for better or worse.
thanks again...i thought people might enjoy it since they enjot the word association thing and the RHP stock thing, but there you go...
