CM9K is a good learning tool with the quizes and lessons... but it gets stomped by most versions of fritz.

it playz at grandmaster level so at our level (most of us at least) does it really matter if we get our ass kicked by kasparov or say adams ....

.... fritz is the stronger engine but like i said we're not practicing for the world championship against topalov tomorrow .... cm9k is a great tutorial program with a grandmaster level engine that beat USA champion and GM larry christianson and is not much different from cm10except for a slight difference in strength and a few features. it is very user friendly and it has a large database and a large collection of famous annotated games

I think fritz and shredder is the only two engines I have heard of other than chessmaster. I am not sure if the latter is an engine or Some brand name with some other engine installed. But I remember I used to have an old version of chessmaster. I Lost it in a house fire. But I learned every thing I know on that thing. Royal butt kickings... but it could be beaten once you learn it's tendencies. Not every time though cause it cheats. And I usually didn't notice till it was too late. Ha ha. But I really am curious as to how much the better engines have progressed. And if they have different styles or what makes them so much more difficult? I can't imagine ever beating one of those. Wish I had the ability to experiment against one. Just to see how soon I would get embarrassed. Has anyone ever played one against the other not to see which one is better but to compare the styles to see what makes them better?

I bought CM 9000 because it was the only chess game in the shop, and it has shown me one thing. . . I AM PISS POOR AT CHESS

i'vbe been playing 10 min tourney games and have been kicked out the park so many times it is embarassing.
Only rated about 900.So bad in fact, that i stopped reading the intermediate tutorial and went back to the beginers.
