After reading the post by BibiAli I went and had a look at
ChessWorld.net.
They do have a lot more features than here but I don't think the site
is as user-friendly, and the format certainly isn't as slick as Red Hot.
It also doesn't seem like you can use most of the features until you
pay $15 for a year's membership.
I don't think you can even get into the forums till you pay (though
I'm still playing with the numerous pull-down menus so I'm not sure).
Still, it's an interesting site with tournaments and a lot of info on
what's happening onsite and in the chess world. If you haven't already
done so, it's worth checking it out.

I'm playing at ChessWorld and it really is a great site. It's connected
to the Barnet Chess Club (London). It's very chessy. And, indeed,
many more features. What I particularly appreciated is the design.
Once you're a member, you're in for a great chess-life. It's only
recently they decided it not to be free any longer. Before it was. But I
think it's worth every penny. What's only $ 15 for 1 year? Go to your
local and find out how much you spend there for just a couple of
hours, eh?
On the other hand I'm pretty sure that many of the RHP members
wouldn't feel at home there. I've stated it more than once here: RHP
is unique on the Web (as far as I know). Let it be what it is. For better
or for worse.
The main thing is that RHPrs enjoy this site enormously, as one can
learn from the Forum posts very easily. So, let there be cohabitation.

i play at chessworld.net too n i believe vijay is has the highest rating
from all of us that play here(in chessworld). im not sure if
xenophon98 is really xenophobe. im practically finished with all my
games since they have a membership fee now. i liked rhp but the only
thing thats wrong now is that 10 game max thing. is it possible to
change that?

There is only one xenophobe, and only one spelling. I do not play
with this handle or any variation of it on any other site. It seems that
a plethora of fans (who seem to have no life at all outside of RHP)
have decided to reveal their obsession with me by copying and
mimicking. I hope that answers your question. I wonder if the thought
police will allow publication of this post. They have censored most of
my posts even though they contain no foul language and are much
less explicit than many that were allowed. Not even a simple chess
server is free from the likes of nepotism.

Every post is treated the same. Most of the time, I don't even read
the name of the person that made the post. What reason is there for
us to treat your posts differently to anyone else's?

try gameknot.com. probably the slickest, easist format if that is what
u want. i like it. not as much going on as chessworld.net but good in
it's own way. one thing about both sites - they have analyse boards.
excellent feature. and pics of players yo ho - see some of u there
maybe...here is ok. just the forum is bit too like a kids chatroom but
each to their own i suppose. sez she having a read of it all. haha

I tried this site (gameknot.com) and it is a lot more user-friendly and
slicker than ChessWorld.net. Replies to games also seem to come a
lot thicker and faster. It doesn't have all the features that
ChessWorld.net does, but, yeah, it has the "analyse board" option
which is convenient. One big difference with both sites compared to
Red Hot Pawn is that as soon as you press a piece onto a square,
that's it, you've moved. I like the "move" button on Red Hot. It gives
you a chance to look at how your move will affect the layout of the
game. Also, here the message screen is next to the board and that's
better. On the other two sites, the messages are below the board and
I missed them and didn't reply!

the message screen is above on gameknot same as here.. chworld
yup - below and not good but they will change it. the reason the
moves r as they are - immediate when u click on a square
is .....because they have analyse boards. ;o] haha ........so, shougi,
how come no challange to BibiAlih on either site huh? having shown u
the way??

It's true that you can have 'second thoughts' with RHP. Once you've
put your piece-to-move on the square you want it, and only after a
definite decision you click 'Move'. But that's exactly the point at
ChessWorld: you do these things on your analysis board. You can be
analysing there for hours, if you want. When you reach your decision,
only then you go back to the playing board and make your move.
Another very nice feature is the 'Notepad'. Very useful! Within your
allotted time you can jot down thoughts, possible & probable moves,
make assessments of the present position, etc.
What I find personally a very useful feature at ChessWorld is that
when you go to your 'game list', you have a complete overview of all
your current games: Who's move is it? Are they online? How much
time left in days, hours? All this in a really fine design and layout.
I only played one game at Gameknot, and won't comment on it. At
both sites, Gameknot & ChessWorld, you can publish your picture. At
CWrld you can attach a short message to it. What I also like there, is
that you've got your national flag next to the player's name, both at
each one's homepage and at the playing-board. The search for
opponents also has many facilities: by rating, by choosing the nick,
the nationality, by vote, etc.
All in all in it's the nearest to a 'tournament hall' I've found until the
present. Never been to ICC for instance.
As for RHP: Give Chris & Russ a break, please! They are only 1 year
on the job.

RHP is the best I must agree..and I also play on Gameknot.

But another that is pretty good is Goldtoken.com

This an email/correspondance site...I like it..you have to pay to be in
the "upper echelon" but other than that it is free.

As for ICC...that is the best site on the net for quick play.

Just as RHP is the best for correspondance play.

Just my opinon...but then again...I could be wrong.

I also play at gameknot.com, and I like it. If you want another user-
friendly site, try http://www.itsyourturn.com. Very nice site.

Greetings:
I play in Chessworld. I think it is a fantastic site...but, i still prefer this
one!! I like this site for what it offers, and other sites for what they
offer. I am life member In Chessworld, and i can see myself playing
in here for the better part of my life also.
Has anyone ever thought of setting up a "redhotpawn" team in
Chessworld?? Maybe with some of the best players!! Such as
Xenophobe, etc. etc. etc.. I have seen a team from the Yahoo
Group, "the65thsquare"; the 19th hole of the Chessworld!! I have also
suggested we start a "redhotpawn" group in Yahoo Groups, but i got
no response on that one, so i let it slide. I was thinking, that if we
could, we could set up tournaments for ourselves, and play them in
here also. I don't know how to draw it up, but, i am sure there is
someone that could do a table for a beginner, intermediate, advanced
and a free for all tournament, which we could run from the redhotpawn
group!!
There is a lot of features in Chessworld, but, half of the time i never
bother looking. I have never used the Forums in there; i like this one
much better!! I also have two teams of my own, and i am a player in
three other teams. I use the same nick in there as i do here. Sadly,
as in here, i haven't been challenging or accepting games at the
minute. I am moving house very soon, and i will be absent for a
while; i am playing three games at the minute, but they are with my
partner/girlfriend and i have free run with the time-outs.
Well, i would just like to say to all, that, for the sake of your Chess,
you should become a Pawn Star; I ALWAYS KNEW I PLAYED WITH
STARS!! And a member in Chessworld; in my opinion, you cant have
one without the other!! They are pea's in the pod of my Chess
enjoyment!!
