like most christian holidays it took over from pre-existing holidays europe before the christians moved in. easter was a spring holiday, december is mid winter.

but here in the southern hemisphere its more a time for outdoor activities, cold cuts of meat and mangos at the beach. yum.....

Christmas in my family is not so much about presents. We never buy anything expensive. Most of oiur gifts are small things, clothings, necessities, or food. Christmas is about being a child again; about being childlike in your wonder at the kindness in people, and in the magical possibilities of Christmas. It is about being a part of your family and your church family, and remembering the birth of Jesus.

For me, its about ripping off the wrapping paper and keeping up that smile to hide the disappointment....and knowing you'll have to wait another year....for that special present
