I have a friend who has done me a good turn, and I want to repay him with some Cigars. when we meet as a group (our families), we always drink some nice Whisky/Bourbon/Bai Jiu. He once suggested that the next time I visited his house we should Have Whisky and Cigars.

How much should you spend on a good Cigar? I've seen them anywhere from €20-200 in the local shops, but i'm sure the tax here makes a big difference from say the US. Saw pack of 5 from Macanudo that may fit the bill. Mild, which is god for beginners, not high end but not cheap. Anyone here knowledgeable who could advise?

As far as I know the USA still prohibits Cuban cigars. Last time I bought cigars they we $10 a piece, but that was a few years ago.
I don't even remember what brand they were but they were good

Here we have Cuban, but also Dominican, honduran, and I believe Nicaraguan. The Tax for tobacco in Ireland is big enough, 23% I think.

I've had cigars from all those countries before. To me they were similar, but I'm no afecianado

I would suggest not smoking - I've watched someone very close to me die of very nearly coughing his lung lining out onto the bedsheets because of lung cancer, so this is a sore point with me - and sticking to whisky.

However, because I also have known a number of people almost - thankfully not quite - ruin their lives with cheap booze, I would suggest good whisky, which is worth drinking slowly rather than gulping down.

JMHO - A cigar is much like a bottle of wine. Different people have different tastes. A more expensive cigar is not a guarantee of satisfaction. Were it up to me, I'd purchase a few cigars in the mid-price range, and hope for the best.
