Can you do anything if you have a higher ranked player that appears to simply be avoiding the game because they are in a world of hurt? In lieu of that, are you awarded the same result on a claimed win as you are on a normal win?

Thanks in advance for you feedback.

Nope, there's nothing you can do but wait and time them out when it becomes available. Unfortunately, this practice has become common among several players on RHP. Don't let them distract you...many players will become frustrated and make sudden moves without analyzing the board. This is what you oppponent is hoping for. Play them hard and make them eat the loss. And yes you will get the same credit for the win regardless of TO, resignation, or checkmate.

how exactly is a win claimed on RHP?

Once the person has timed out, a skull with the words "claim win" will appear on the line next to the game your "my games" page. Also, if you hit the "info" icon, it will open another window that displays how much time they have left.

im sorry i was confused. i know about that, what i meant to ask is what is the criteria to claim a draw?

Well, the same criteria as normal chess rules. Insuffificent material, 3 repeated moves, 50 half moves without a pawn move or trade, perpetual check. I think that's it.....

50 half-moves ??

I thought it was 50 full moves ... (and I agree with the other criteria you have listed here)

actually, I've been trying to figure out the mechanics for using the "claim draw" command. now that we're on the subject.

say I'm claiming 3fold repetition. do I use the command right before/when I make the move that makes the position repeat threefold? or right after, on my next move? Suppose my opponent's move made it threefold. do I claim on my next turn, even if I move somewhere else?

This actually came up in a game where I had a perpetual, and my opponent was so bent on avoiding the draw, which I could've claimed had I figured out the timing of the command and/or bothered, that he stumbled into a mate instead :-)

Claim as you make the move that results in a third repetition.
