I went to university to study computer engineering after 6 years of sniffing paint (art school), and I assure you it is really laborous to get back the studying routine. I was A -student in high school, but getting down with the books in uni proved to be a real struggle. it took me 2-3 years just to get back the study habits.

still, I don't regret the years I did art, in fact, I would encourage to take a break. even a longer break. nobody knows anything about themselves at 18-20 old, and most of the 'long term' -plans decided on then will prove to be mistakes. it seems the things start to clarify when you get closer to 30, or even at 50+, or possibly never.

but there's also the danger of getting passive with breaks. you might never get around to continue studying.
