I went to my company picnic today. Someone brought a chess set. There was a couple of guys around it that thought they were good becuase they routinely beat the other guys in the break room during lunch.
Well, I went over and got in line as the losers rotated out. When I got up to play, I beat the current reigning winner and everyone was surprised. Then I beat most everyone else there while just glancing at the board. Poeple were watching in amazement as "the new guy" slaughtered all the regulars. A few of the guys from my office that know how much I play sat in the back and snickered.
Just funnny how much I suck here, but out in the general popuation I'm a chess god.
Anyone else have this expirience?

At a pub close to me I saw some guys playing dominoes.
I knew one of them quite well (the owner) and asked if I could have a go, as I've never played dominoes before. (And BTW I was right all along - It's damn boring)
After the dominoes the other guy asked me if I can play chess. I humbly replied "Yeah, I can play a bit, but I'm not really good". He asked if I wanted a game, because he always beats everyone in the pub. He said something silly like "new blood" or somesuch....
I said "Sure. Why not? Lemme just get a beer."
I proceeded to actually promote 2 pawns before he eventually gave up.
Needless to say we were both quite surprised.
I beat him a further 3 times and another regular twice before they decided to give up trying.
It was a good day 😉
