I want to get a picture of the global news of the day.
Is there any such site?
I don't want to surf dozens of different sites. And i don't want a one sided view of the truth.
I would use a different site for local news.

ananova.com is pretty good. It's a UK news site, so the stories lean somewhat to being about Britain than elsewhere, but it has nice, dry, reasonably unbiased coverage of much of world news.

Try the BBC's site. It's what I usually use.

I like news.google.ca. You may prefer news.google.com.

i used
http://www.ananova.com/news/index.html?eywords=World&menu=news.latestheadlines.worldnews
for a bit and it drove me nuts.
from where i stand the "world" news is very uk oriented (but dry and fair as you said)

so i tried
http://news.google.ca/news/en/ca/world.html
this is a nice comprehensive report of what newspapers in the states are saying about the world, but not at all what i am looking for.

so i am now using http://news.bbc.co.uk/
i find it very sad that this is what my father bored me to tears with as a youth, surely there is something better than the bbc out there.

I like cnn, I don't think that it is too biased and there's loads of info.

it seems kind of conservative.
maybe it is just me remembering my father being interested in something that meant nothing to me.
it doesn't feel alive, or humorous.
but i will grant that it is good in many ways.

more winges about the bbc: if i look at technology or science or whatever then it goes back to being a local report. these parts interest me more than the headlines.
