don't buy HP, either. π
i think with mine it was the HP Update Agent (automatic updates). til i killed it once too often. then i had to buy system restore disks for it.
you'd think, paying $1500 for a mid-range computer, you'd get mid-range components. but when the system fan failed and i took it to the electronics superstore to match with a replacement, it was identical to the cheapest brand-name ($12) on the shelf.
My Toshiba works fine untill recently it quit shutting down som of the time. I have to hit the power switch and hold it for a while. Can't understand it. Only use it to play chess and that isn't much time. My thinking is, if a pc is for chess only, buy the cheapest available since all the extras is just wasted money.

Originally posted by zeeblebotWhat's wrong with HP? I have mine since '04 without any hardware problems. Except having to buy a new printer a few months back, and even that was my fault. I found out the hard way that when you have a really bad paper jam, picking up the printer and throwing it across the room, doesn't quite clear the jam.
