Is anyone else in the North of England having connectitvity problems this afternoon. As soon as I get on the Internet I just get thrown straight back off again, then I have to click on 'connect' about 50 times as it tells me that there is no dial tone then eventually it connects only to throw me straight back off again after a few seconds. Is it me or is it the ISP, or is it these frewaky thunderstorms that we are having?

Contrary to popular belief, the weather can indeed affect your Internet connection.
For instance, heavy rains, winds or thunderstorms can damage phone lines.
Edit: It's been pissing down here all afternoon.
Chances are that if you haven't fiddled with the setup of your Internet (Modem, wires, filters, etc...) and you're getting the good ol' fashioned Error 680 - No dial tone than it is a fault with your line. The bad weather you've got is aggrivating a minor fault you've already got on the line. I'd report it your ISP (or cable company) and get them to check your line out. They'll try and fob you off with excuses and say your line is fine but keep pushing the point and they should give in and do it eventually.

Sometimes it is worse than others but never as bad as it has been today. Would a long telephone extension lead cause this problem or is it definately down to an external line fault?
