Hello, I don’t have many games going since joining and am considering joining a clan or a club. Is this a good idea for a novice?

Yes, but I can't remember if one can join a clan while still provisional. You may have to wait until you have 20 games under your belt.

You can join as a provisional, but not as non-Sub...

You can join Clubs however.

I just took up chess by joining this site, other than playing a bit when I was at school. Getting in a clan was massive. I got taught a lot by the clan people and now my performance is going down the... (Great clan though 😁).

Ok a club might be an option then. How can I tell if they are active with challenges or tournaments?

Sorry for all the questions.

Although you can join a club, 'club tournaments' are still only available to subscribers.

you have zero games going at the moment
figure out (using maths) how many moves on average you plan to make on a daily basis
get thee to the open invite page and
A) accept any games you may find offered there
B) initiate more games until you reach the level of game load you desire

a fun thing to do is play a game or two or ten against some of the heavy hitters
they won't last long, you will be demolished
and yet that will still count towards the minimum number of games you must play to achieve
LEVEL UP!

do not initiate a game with me
i am crabby and mercurial
you will not enjoy yerself

then go to the clans page and ask nicely to join metallica

they will teach you how to be ruthless
because none of them are ruth

good luck
play more games than you think you can
listen to all the advice everyone (except slapshot) tells you

@Mercury

I would invite you to the Ghost Chamber, but if reports are to be believed, we are all vampires.

It's not the "Vampire" part that bothers people...

It's the "Vampires who fart constantly" that puts people off πŸ˜’

What are you guys eating over there?

Some may frown on that but oh well............ πŸ™‚
