What person (or group of people) do you think has contributed most to our civilization? Why?
May I make a request? If I may, let's take it for granted that religious support comes first. Let's just grant everyone that their religion comes first and not mention those persons here. I am quite willing to agree that Jesus and God come first. I mean... as far as just everyday life and the civilization we enjoy, who has done the most to win the day as it were.
I will be making several posts, but my first vote goes to a Frenchman,
Lavoisier (sp?) for the insight and invention of the periodic chart of the elements and modern chemistry. From which we obtain virtually everything we touch and use in modern civilization.
Your turn...

Side Note: Electromagnatism is pretty well nested into TOE... "Theory Of Everything". Pretty interesting that it has been shown to be related to the Weak force and the Strong force... 😕 I grimace because the weak force is really strong and the strong force is really weak. A matter of scale.

While you're on the periodic table, give Mendeleev some credit 🙂.
I'll be posting many, many more times here, or none at all. Too much variety.
My heart ... Pierced be torn and done.
Kilt.
Rendered no more to beat,
in time to the retreat.
What the hell did Lavoisier do? ( postus scriptus... I have day alone... in physical misery. What to do? get drunk. Well there already.)
😵
Originally posted by StarValleyWyWell, you were close. Lavoisier was one of the first really hardcore chemists, along with Priestly and a few others. Among other things, Lavoisier betrayed his aristocrat status during the French Revolution by ordering a dozen eggs in an omelette, not knowing that this was atypical of most proletarian appetites. Off went his head.

Sorry about the face, dude :'(. Try lying with your face in something cold/icy/not firing cathode rays at you.

Josh is a research associate. He is currently working on various "hand held" chemical agent detectors. His current project is an evaluation of a British device... He is the "tool guy". He has an affinity for computers and devices. He runs the Dugway Chemical labrotory SEM, Gas Chomotogrophy and MassSpec machines at the lab.
My only contribution to his work is that i bought him a "Leatherman" tool for christmas with which he fixes all the tubing. 🙂

Ah. How could I forget the 't'? I might also put in Mr. Newton, on his own merits and because I wouldn't want him all pissed off that I put Leibnitz in and not him......
Back to basics.. "To Smurf Hungh!" this is the guy who first decided that language was good. What do you suppose the very first "useful" phrase in human language was? My bet is for "Beware!"... I think it sounded as a trumpet "Haaa!"
any way... here's to you mister Hunggh!
