Actually, I agree with Kirksey here. I think the coverage has a lot to do with race.

At about the same time as the natalee hollaway case, a young balck woman also went missing. Some believed she may have been kidnapped. I have no idea what happened to her because it got very little press coverage.

On the other hand, the press spent countless hours ...[text shortened]... raped before she was killed?
Had she been sold into slavery?
If so, where had she been sold?
Is it me or did anyone else get the feeling that Greta Van Susteran ejoyed being in Aruba?

That whole thing was sick and then we went through it again (for a second time) with Jon Benet.

Those guys sit around and pray for stuff like this to happen. I'm sure Greta loved being in Aruba, but i'm sure whe loved being at the center of a "big news story" more.

Some day one of these morons is gonna commit the crime just to get an inside track on the coverage.

I tend to think that when a white woman like Susan Smith or Andrea Yates goes crazy and has a little bit of bizarre religion to go with it, the press are all over it.
Let's test your theory. If anyone knows of a white man with a large family who is willing to kill (bonus points for stabbing) them in a private setting, please forward their information to:
kirksey957@timeforchess.com

Please include pictures of the family (preferrably in "normal" settings) along with video testimonials from neighbors and/or family and friends. We apologize in advance, but due to the expected overwhelming response, we will not be able to respond to all entries. Video material will become the property of the kirksey957 and will not be returned.

Don't you have some theology to argue in the spiritual forums?

This is absolutely amazing to me. A couple of observations. These children were stabbed. Nearly as many children lost their lives in this event as happened in the Amish shooting, but those children were shot. They were also white. The four children in Louisville were Muslim.

The week prior to this the press gave blanket coverage of the school shoo ...[text shortened]... ld died. She was also white.

The Andrea Yates case is just yet another example of hipocracy.
im not sure if a degree of racism was implied here, but if there was I must be missing something. When the press covers a white lady who murdered her children and is crazy, doesnt that look bad for white people? So if racism was a factor, wouldnt the press not cover the white people as much and be all over the muslim family, attempting to damaged their reputation??

this makes sense to me, does it to anyone else?

I think he means the racism of the audience (or simply the media perception of this racism) that cares more if the piece of news is about white people.

Domestic violence & crimes against children, regardless of the race or religion of those involved, are just sad. Sensationalism? Yes. Newsworthy? No.

i recall that when cynthia tucker (?; columnist from atlanta) was complaining on this same topic, two of the "white" women she cited were hispanic.

natalee h.: on spring break, tourist, foreign country, committed parents pushing it in the news.

Hispanic is the new white.

Another consideration: more people now get their news from TV than from newspapers.

Last night Bill O'Reilly devoted a major segment of his show to a story about a 10-year-old Negro girl who was killed at her birthday party in March by a stray bullet from a gang shooting. This was the second story he's done on the neighborhood in about that many years.

O'Reilly's show has more viewers than all his cable news competition put together.
