You have to feel for his wife and two young kids left behind. Terrible tradgedy for them.
I liked Steve Irwins' larger than life character, but we all kinda figured that going around and scaring dangerous animals into a reaction would catch him in the end.
Only the third ever recorded stingray death in Australian waters in our recorded history.

Just so we can put the 'stick poking' line to rest, the police have examined the footage of Irwin's death and have concluded he did nothing to provoke the stingray.
