Fischer played first board at a chess Olympics (World Team
Championship) in Havana in the 60's, and after the tourney they set
up boards for over 6000 simultaneous games in the same Revolution
Plaza. They were rained out before the 200th game was completed.
Castro, who was (is) very supportive of chess and considered a strong
player, beat one of the players on the Mexican team in a game!!
Fischer had previously played in a Cuban tournament by teletype when
the US State Department refused to allow him to travel to Cuba.
