levis were invented by a men named straus and levi who took sail cloth from the old ships and made pants in the 1870's they put rivets on them to make them stronger.
so denim and the french ?

Denim is from France.
Originally serge de Nîmes.
The etymology for "jeans" is thought to be from Genoa which
also produced a similar cloth called bleu de Genes.
The word "jeans" was in use a hundred years before Levi Strauss.
