Would there be enough interest in a culture forum to trouble the owners of the site about it? A forum like, say, sports, but where the discussions are centred on movies, literature, art, music, opera, poetry - whatever floats your boat in a cultural sense? A forum where such things can be discussed away from the mindless inanity here at GF? I have no problem with mindless inanity, but it can get in the way of a serious discussion.

I know that certain people (you know who you are) will read this and won't be able to stop banging in a negaive comment, being the predictably negative SOBs they are, but i'm hoping (against hope) there might actually be some support for something like this.

I don't like your chances - my experience of the General Forum is that any thinkers in here are keeping their mouths shut. This is probably true of most forums - they're an opportunity for people to shed their inhibitions because of their anonymity. I'm an admitted control freak (and proud of it) and as usual expect to cop a dose of abuse just for posting here.

It's a great idea though, just don't get your hopes up. The GF clowns run rampant through all the forums here.

i think theres enough uselss forums allready,
honestly, how many new posts about cultural stuff you think there will be made a day? one? a half? 1/7th after a while?
you can make cultural posts in this ''general'' forum, if some1 posts something negative witch has totaly nothing to do with the subject you could let a mod look at it/delete it. But ofcourse you cant prevent that ppl have negative feelings for the subject your posting. like i have right now for a cultural forumπŸ™‚

Hey, stop reading my mind and posting my thoughts! 😠

People have suggested a music forum, a poetry forum, a film forum etc. a few times. I didn't really like the idea because I don't think it's practical to have zillions of forums. But a culture forum would be more inclusive, so I think that might be a good idea. I am almost certain that there are a few people out there who don't bother to post in General, but who would enjoy and contribute to a culture forum.

I thought it was about a possible new forum, culture, not so much the difference between quantity and quality in general;o

and i still think that if the quantity will be low, it will be a waste of forum space, like i said, there are enough useless forums.
if the quantity for threads with these kind of cultural subjects are low, i do not see why they cant just stick in the general forum. (eventho it would be wierd to have theads of quality (like you said, this still has to be proven) between all this nonsense;p )

Perhaps we could have a new forum - the *FUN* forum - and all the people who fill up the General Forum with crap could go there and play to their own exclusive appreciative audience. Then the General Forum wouldn't have all these "me-too" threads, and the pranksters would have a performance stage of their own. Perhaps the *FUN* forum could even have a special scoring device of some sort, like recommendations, for the audience to show their appreciation. πŸ™„

Or maybe a spin-off forum...

I don't know... it would just get filled with idiotic threads like all the other public forums.

where as the clan forum seems to work quite well as you know. the numbnuts can be kept away and drivel deleted if need be (which doesn't seem to be a problem with a selected crowd). sure there could be more posters (how about bigger or unlimited clans?), but then again, even enemy clan has never been full.

I see your point, and being a member of The Enemy, I am quite happy with the current state of affairs. But that's just because I was lucky enough to hear about The Enemy and be able to join. Most people probably don't know about that clan at all, and some may know about it, but not be able to join, either because they already are in four clans or because they aren't subscribers. I think a public culture forum would be worth trying.

Probably some merit, Iron. An exclusive 'serious discussion' of cultural

topics forum would offer the convenience of a 'safe haven' of common

interest and easily referenced threads (providing its turf was respected

by waist high focused philistine terrorists and literate malcontents).

On the other hand, suppose a person walks into a General (Forum)

Store interested in buying a few comic books. Then, while working

the aisles, quite unexpectedly several serious journals or a few

hardbounds happen to catch the shopper's attention... a guy or gal

who normally wouldn't darken the door of a mainstream bookstore.

Precluding this random benefit (and further diluting the overall quality

of the General Forum in the process) might be an offsetting negative.
