Damn you all to hell!
Poker is the single biggest threat to our glorious game - so many good chess players are wasting their time and talent in this 'so called' skill gambling game (if it is such a skill game then why is it every time I have played sensibly and waited for a good strong hand, I always end up running into an even better one?? Cause it is all luck!)
Every time I go to the 4ncl (that is the national chess league of England, for the uneducated) they waste all night playing and then alot of them are too tired to play a proper game of chess and just agree quick draws the morning after.
So, I emplore you, anyone who has the opportunity to take down the poker clubs make sure you do all you can to ruin them and stop it from taking us over completely.

about poker, there is a luck factor and that is in part why so many love the game, you can do everything right but still lose. you won't win anything in the long run if you just sit back and play the top hands. if i'm playing against someone like that i'll try and see the flop with a couple of suited connectors, if i hit i know i'm getting paid, if not fold and start again, no harm done.
an otb chess game requires your attention throughout the game, you could fall asleep for a while in the poker game and still end up winning it.
both can be frustrating as hell but also satisfying... i don't think you can really compare the two though, they're so much different from each other.
Yeah, but there seems to have been a concerted effort by the poker world to advertise to chess players using the same logic that alot of people assume that all good players are also skilled mathematicians because of their ability to calculate ahead wheras this is often not the case. Thus, many players have been drawn away from the game they should be playing by the lure of there being 'more money' to be made in poker - all I hope is that the poker software starts to become as advanced as the chess stuff is now, and people give up on it as a source of revenue and go back to treating it as a harmless bit of fun, just as chess should be (unless you are playing someone strong, who is not sporting about treating the game as fun and tries to make it difficult for you constantly)
Originally posted by Tyrannosauruschexthere will never be engines in poker like there is in chess that's certain. so people will start playing poker, lose and then go back to chess... i don't see a major problem, if you want to play chess you will. no one is forcing anyone to play poker... could it be that it's just a better game than chess? i play both regularly and i prefer poker.
