Originally posted by FeivelHaving now had a look at the position, it is apparent that white does have a small advantage based on his queen side pawn majority but to claim, at this stage that the game is a demonstrable win is clearly ridiculous. Playing on from the position with a different player would produce a meaningless result.
Before this becomes a debate on who hsad an advantage if any, a word from one (or both) of the participants is in order. Edmond Dantes did have (in my opinion) an advantage that is based on white having the first move. To be put bluntly it was NOT a loss but most probably a draw.
Feivel the Freethinker
I have stated before my preference for automatic time outs unless there is a vacation flag showing.
Feivel should not have to defend his actions which were entirely legitimate but there is no word from Edmond Dantes about why he did not move within the time allowd.
I dont really play chess at the level of Mr Dantes but just for the hell of it will add that things look fairly even to me.
In terms of the timeout. One thing I very often do before deciding on a time-out is to check if my opponent times his opponents out. If they do so often, I am more inclined to time out. A quick look at Dantes' record should reveal that he is no stranger to the concept of timing opponents out. In fact he seems to be a rather avid participant in this regard. He is clearly a very good player but that record was looking way to perfect so big up for Feive!!l

im still a bit confused on how a win was claimed by just a simple time out. for the second time, would any1 mind explaining?

o yeah, kinda forgot bout that part. so basically, the winner can still say he won the game in this case, but Dantes technically remains
"UNBEATEN". so far, from what i can see, nobody has mated him and he hasnt resigned. he just lost on a technicality. ok thanks.

Originally posted by zakkwylderi think archbold also has this same claim to fame. as does the baron of chess and i spose a few others. but none of these has played so much so fast as king dantes.

p.s. i wonder if the moderators have the power to slide some of these numerous threads, on the same topic, over into one thread.
