I believe the guy in the suit was David Prouse. I think he had a pretty thick Scottish (or something like that) accent so it just didn't work for him talking.
I disagree that Vader should have been a martial artist or something. Being a Jedi Knight wasn't about that. Granted the fight choreography could have been better for Episode 4 but hey give Alec Guiness a break, he was pretty old back then too. 🙂

they are more like sumo wrestlers. they walk confidently and solidly, with a centred stance ... like everything else in darth's character is.
of all the jedis, darth seems to be the only one with a lame walk.
the others have a good solid walk.
darth just walks like a feeble old man ... not like one possesed with the power of the dark side.
darth is lucky that his voice, costume and character portrayal do the job for him.

I think Vader always conveyed power in his presence and he never overexaggerated his movement. I never noticed that he had a lame walk? I still don't think he did.
