the character of darth was well constructed ... but whoever was inside that suit did a terrible job.

the darth actor should have studied aikido and tai chi ... it would have suited Mr Vader.

I believe the guy in the suit was David Prouse. I think he had a pretty thick Scottish (or something like that) accent so it just didn't work for him talking.

I disagree that Vader should have been a martial artist or something. Being a Jedi Knight wasn't about that. Granted the fight choreography could have been better for Episode 4 but hey give Alec Guiness a break, he was pretty old back then too. 🙂

i think you misunderstand my mention of aikido and tai chi ... they are not karate, doing hiugh kicks and jumps.
they are more like sumo wrestlers. they walk confidently and solidly, with a centred stance ... like everything else in darth's character is.
of all the jedis, darth seems to be the only one with a lame walk.
the others have a good solid walk.
darth just walks like a feeble old man ... not like one possesed with the power of the dark side.
darth is lucky that his voice, costume and character portrayal do the job for him.

Maybe I did misunderstand but I really think Prowse did a great job in presenting the proper mystique of Vader's appearance. I don't think he would have been held in as high regard if he didn't.

I think Vader always conveyed power in his presence and he never overexaggerated his movement. I never noticed that he had a lame walk? I still don't think he did.

Let's not forget his part in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
