I've heard the story about the multiple accounts. Might be true, but I'm not buying it.

I'm pretty certain that the straw that broke the camel's back was the clan name.

I don't know what the Clan name was. If it was a profanity, then the usual punishment for putting vulgarity in a clan name or user profile is a forum ban of some length. A poster who put racist terms (the N-bomb) in his profile was permanently banned. A permanent banning of a long term subscriber who was pretty active in the forums for an offensive clan name seems, again, a bit harsh.
