Im sad, there was a time, not along ago (around about the time debates and general were still one forum) when i could debate topics of interest with you all, my friends.
However, i have not participated in a debate for some months now. The reason is one of time. Everytime i see a debate that looks interesting, i click on the thread, only to find that there are 10 posts, all at least 2000 words long!
What is that about?
Does anyone really have a spare hour to dedicate to reading up on the previous 20 posts in a thread, just to add something to the discussion?
Of course not. The result is that a lot of people just post something without reading the previous discussion at all.
Is this a discussion?
A 2000 word post, in my opinion, is the internet version of 'not letting your opponent get a word in edgeways.'
Shorly a structured debate takes in all sides and reaches some kind of conclusion. Not so in the debates forum. The only threads that make it past 50 posts are the ones that have slipped into and argument. Time and time again i see the same people slinging mud at the same other people.
I would like to think that some sort of word limit would sort things out but people would just submit more posts.
Perhaps if i were to ask all you forum phd students to please, have a thought for a dislexic debater, have a little less to say:'(

Originally posted by marinakatombI was trying to follow your first post with an affimative 'yeah' but cribs posted before me. Which was confusing. I think I misspelled someting so I went back twice to fix it.
