So I don't know all that much about debit cards , and being that I'm 18 and will be at college next year I should probably figure this stuff out:

So, when you have a debit card, and use it do you get charged a fee for your purchase? My mom seems to think that banks will always charge between $1.50 and $2.50 for every purchase I make with a debit card. I wasn't quite buying it, most because I don't think she knows crap about this stuff. I looked some stuff up online and found a report that said appx. 90% of banks have began charging between $.10 and $1.50 for Pin Based Charges (which I don't really understand...). So, if somebody could help me out and explain these debit card fees to me it'd help.

I think it varies quite a bit. I'd talk to your bank.

Also, don't give your PIN out to any Nigerian Princes.

Not sure if a Debit card is the same over here, but i use Both a Credit card, and My laser - the Debit card. It takes money that you have in your account, and it doesn't charge you for the usage. My credit card doesn't charge me either, but that's because i clear it every month like a good boy πŸ˜›

most banks have no charge with a debit card for purchases, there is usually a charge if you take money out of an atm other than your banks though. check with a branch rep, and they will give you all the details. I have a daughter in college, and a debit card is a mustπŸ™‚

An email scam... They say that they are very rich but are on a precarious situation right now and can't use their money. So they reach out for you to help them out and next thing you know you have no money.

Here's a brief article that explains the difference between signature and PIN based transactions:
http://www.creditcards.com/debit-card-payments-pin-or-signature.php

You should consider getting a credit card instead if you have the will-power to make sure you don't charge more than you can pay off in a given month. As a college student, you'll no doubt start getting plenty of offers. There are advantages to a credit card. You start building your credit history. You won't have to pay until the end of the billing cycle. Just get a card without monthly fees that doesn't charge interest if you pay off the entire balance each month. Make sure you pay before the due date. Most charge pretty hefty fees for being late.

I think all those I have looked at were from males (or pretending-to-be-males). Ah, the lottery! The first time I got that, it was in the snail-mail, from Spain. Very likely that they pick random people from random countries who have never played in a lottery and let them win millions of dollars!
