The Republican Party, GOP, was started in mid 1850s and that it did have only one main agenda:
Abolish Slavery
Its first presidential candidate was Abe (Lincoln).
Of course, he did win as you know.
Today, most of the minorities do not vote for the party that supports them.
Over 80% of the minorities that are proposed for higher offices are blocked or strongly objected against by the Democratic party; who claim that they are the party for minorities.
George W. Bush has promoted more minorities to higher offices during his presidency than the Democrats have done during the last 60 years!

Originally posted by LuckInteresting Harry. But I think the first part is rubbish - just because a party was created 150 years ago with one aim has practically zero relevence on today. "Scotish Widows" is (was?) a bank set up originally ot bank for exactly that - Scotish Widows of teh Napolionic Wars. That doesn't mean that that's all tehy do today, or that it's even a part of their focus.

Other things that'd have to be confirmed before I could weigh your statements:
what % of 'non-minority' candidates for higher office are objected to by the democrats? Saying 80% of 'minorities' are objected to by the Democrats measn nothing unless you can weigh it against this.
on a similar vein: what % of 'minority' candidates for higher office are objected to by the Republicans? Insinuating one party is better for 'minorities' than the other is baseless unless you have this info as well.
I'd also argue that stating that GWB has promoted more minorities in the last 8 (?) years than the democrats did in 60 is also not a straight sign that teh Republicans are more 'pro-minority' than the Democrats. Having minorities in office is a relatively new thing as we have become less institutionally racist, so it's not a straight comparison to compare what the Democrats did in the 50's with what the Republicans have done in the 00's. Plus, promoting 'minorities' into office could be seen as an easy way of publically trying to show that the Republicans are the friend of the minority groups. If minority groups are still not voting for the Republicans this is surely a better sign that the Republicans are not giving the average minority person what they want than how many minorities have been given high profile jobs, potentially as a race statement.
Originally posted by LuckThe first part is close, but not completely accurate. The Republican Party was formed a group of democrats, whigs and free-soilers in the mid 1850's. However, their main goal was to keep slavery out of the western terretories. Very few republicans were abolitionists.

And their first presidential candidate was Fremont, who lost to James Buchanan.
Lincoln, meanwhile, was running for Senate in Illinois
Originally posted by LuckMaybe true, but I'd be willing to bet the Bush administration has killed more minorites than any other administration since the Vietnam era.

Originally posted by rbmorrisAlso, I suppose that in earlier times, those minorities were just happy to live there. Now they might want to change things in the place that they live... A bit like in Britain these days.

Over 80% of the minorities that are proposed for higher offices are blocked or strongly objected against by the Democratic party; who claim that they are the party for minorities. They are blocked because their political views are way too right wing, not because they are minorities. Get your head outta the swamp.
Originally posted by LuckOld Abe used to run on a different political platform before he became a Republican. What he said in public doesn't necessarily agree with what he believed privately. He was at the "right" place at the "right" time, so to speak (but then again timing is everything). Not to take anything away from the guy, but the patriotic image many people have of past presidents/forefathers that they were taught about in elementary schools (and even high schools) isn't always representative of who the people really were... many times certain truth is omitted, or certain truth is embellished in order to make out something more than is there.
